“Primal” is an immersive music performance that invites the audience into the natural habitat of the “Bassalones”. The Bassalone is a large herbivorous mammal with a long, elegant neck, twisted snout, and a stout, barrel-shaped torso. Yet, its most extraordinary feature was hidden within its chest – a vast, resonating cavity that acts as a natural amplifier for the deep, sonorous hums it used to communicate.
You are invited to witness these creatures. With their stout, clumsy build, these remarkable mammals are most famous for their haunting mating calls and deep, earth-shaking roars.
Sól Ey
Sól Ey is an Icelandic transdisciplinary artist based between Copenhagen and The Hague. Working across performance, interactive installation, and instrument design, she creates immersive environments that combine sound, movement, light, space, and the body. Using DIY electronics, sensors, and self-built wearable instruments, her practice explores how technology can choreograph behaviour, perception, and social relations.
From 2024 to 2026, she was an associate artist with Modelo62 and ‘Primal’ is a result of this collaboration.
